We know that being out of work due to serious injury, illness, or other disability can take a financial toll. To help, JHU offers—free of charge for all full-time benefits-eligible faculty, staff, and LIUNA bargaining unit members—long-term disability insurance that pays out a portion of income when disability makes work impossible over a long period of time.
For shorter-term coverage, we offer the ability to purchase short-term disability insurance that can close the gap between sick leave and long-term disability pay. Both types of insurance are offered through Lincoln Financial.
Long-term Disability InsuranceJHU offers long-term disability insurance, free of charge, for faculty, staff, and LIUNA bargaining unit members who have worked full time at JHU for at least one year (or you may be eligible sooner if you meet certain conditions). The coverage pays a portion of your weekly base earnings after 90 days of consecutive absence (or when your short-term coverage ends) if you’re disabled and unable to work. Short-term Disability InsuranceJHU offers full-time faculty, staff, and LIUNA bargaining unit members the option to buy short-term disability insurance. The coverage pays a portion of your weekly base earnings for up to 11 weeks if you’re disabled and unable to work. Read more about our short-term disability insurance.
